The Ambassador of Japan and the director of "Foundation for Demining and
Demolition" signed a contract
On the 16th of March the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Armenia Mr. June
Yamada and the director of the "Foundation for Demining and
Demolition" Mrs. Knarik Davtyan signed the contract for "The
Project for Medical Support and First Aid Training for Demining
Activities" in the frame of Japanese Government Grant
Assistances for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)
program in the administrative building of the Ministry of
Defense of RA.
The Deputy Minister of MoD and CHDE SNCO Board member Mr. Suren Sahakyan, Director of
the "Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise" Mr. Ruben Arakelyan and other officials
were present at the Signing Ceremony.
In the frame of this project Mine Risk Education and First Aid trainings are intended to be
implemented in mine contaminated regions of Armenia especially among schoolchildren, and
professional visits to mine victims, as well.
The main point of the project is the acquirement of the special well-equipped Toyota Land Cruiser
ambulance. Its presence will ensure the first aid for the deminers in case of accident, which is
stated in the international standards.
Thus, Armenian Humanitarian Demining capabilities will be added with modern-equipped
ambulance. Mine victims will have the opportunity to receive a preliminary medical examination
on the spot and, if necessary, to be taken to the nearest medical center, and the children from
borderline will learn about the skills of first aid procedures.
The project will last 1 year, 40.000 people will become beneficiary 38.000 of them are children.
The total amount of the contract is 83 096 US Dollars, 75 000 of which is the Japanese government
contribution, 7 800 is the "Foundation for Demining and Demolition" contribution.
The attendees highly appreciated the Japanese government contribution in mine risk reduction in
RA and in developing of safe behavior among teenagers.
The quality control of the whole project will be implemented by mine action national authority
"Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise" SNCO.

the evaluating committee led by United Nation Mine Action
Service have visited Davit Bek area of Syunik Region recently.
Here cluster submunitions have been found in the result of
survey operations. The hazardous area has been marked with
tape warning against the dangers of mines․ The detected
unexploded ordnance has been destroyed.
The operations of EO detection and disposal are currently going
on in Davit Bek area.
