From the first day of the Mission the specialists of the ‘’Center for Humanitarian
Demining and Expertise” have totally cleared 280 000 m2 area and handed it over to
the Syrian authorities
The official handover of the areas cleared by the Armenian
Humanitarian Mission to the authorities of Aleppo Governorate
of the Syrian Arab Republic occurred in Aleppo on September
21. It has been confirmed by the certificate handed over to the
Aleppo authorities that previously hazardous area covering 96
485 m2 located in Benjamin settlement was cleared and is safe
for the future intended use. The executive member of Aleppo
Deputy Governor’s Office Dr. Mohammed Kumit Asi Al-Sheikh,
Consul General of Armenia Armen Sargsyan, the management staff of the Russian Center for
Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, the authorities of Aleppo Governorate, the spiritual leaders of
the Armenian Diocese, representatives of the Armenian Humanitarian Mission and other officials
participated in the event. Thus, from the first day of the Mission the specialists of the ‘’Center for
Humanitarian Demining and Expertise” have totally cleared 280 000 m2 area and handed it over to
the Syrian authorities, and the group of doctors provided medical assistance to more than 17 000
locals. The Syrian side has expressed its sincere gratitude to the fraternal nation for saving lives and
for the unconditional support and has indicated that the day is historic and it claims the amity of
centuries between the two people one more time.

privinces Vayots Dzor, Khachik and Bardzruni communities and to Syunik,

the financial support of NATO project, the Armenian Red Cross
Society was conducting the awareness raising compaign related
to Exposive Renmants of War and Mine Risk Education in the
Republic of Armenia. With the aim to provide professional
evaluation, the FDD representatives monitored the ARCS
activities in particular the process of initial assessment of the knowledge of local population. Based
on the results of this assessment it is expected to draft educational methodological handbook.
During the meetings of FDD representatives with the head of community as well as local people it
was emphasized the importance of the activities conducted by the ARCS within the framework of
implementation of NATO project.
The Center for Humanitarian Deminng and Expertise summarized the done
activities for 2020
During the 2020 the specialists of the CHDE conducted
demining activities 62.896 square meters of Mayakovsky
community in Kotayk province (in the area of the former
military storages of Balahovit) and officially handed over to the
local self-government bodies. After the July events in Tavush
province our deminers identified and neutralized shells and
unexploded ordnance that were fired in the peaceful settlements’
direction of Chinari and Choratan communities.
During the war our specialists visited province Vardenis, Vardenis, Mets Masrik, Sotk settlements
and Syunik province Artsvanik and Davit Bek settlements with the aim to identify unexploded
ordnance and provide news coverage for it.
The Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise has been carrying out a humanitarian
mission in Syrian Arabic Republic since Februry 8, 2019. In general, starting from the first day of
the mission up to December 31, 2020 the mined area of 319.820 square meters was demined and
identified 359 mines and explosives. A team of surgeons, therapists, gynecologists, pediatricians,
dentists and neurologists provided their assistance to 25 816 patients.
In September the SHCE SNCO organized the theoretical and practical training for the 6
deminers departing to Syria. The training was hosted at the equipped with the necessary tools
Training Center in Echmiadzin.
In 2021 from January 25 to February 25 it is planned to conduct a training for deminers and
The specialists of Foundation for Demining and Demolition conducted clearance of 3850 square
meters of mined area from the approved 550000 square meters of hazardous area infected with
cluster munition in Syunik province, Tegh community Kornidzor settlement. In December in
Syunik province Kapan community Davit Bek settlement was conducted identification works of
unexploded ordnance and non-technical survey of the 30 000 square meters area.
Within the framework of NATO NSPA funded project on Independent validation and verification
for explosive remnants of war and mine risk education program in the Republic of Armenia, in
August 2020 the CHDE organized a tree-da training on mine risk education for the Armenian Red
Cross Society instructors and volunteers, who already teach the population in the provinces.
