Discussions in the Ministry of Defence of RA 2014-03-31 On March 29, First Deputy Minister of Defence Davit Tonoyan, Deputy Minister Ara Nazaryan and Director of "Center for Humanitarian and Demining Expertise" SNCO Ruben Arakelyan  held a consultation on the issues related to the organizational and final agreement of demining activities in 16 confirmed mine- exposed areas in 4 communities of the Syunik province, aimed on the implementation of the technical task presented by the "Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center" SNCO, with donor assistance provided by the U.S. Department of State, to be implemented by the "HALO Trust" international organization and the peacekeeping engineering-sappers battalion of the ARM MoD. Preparatory phase of the humanitarian demining activities has continued for several months, and technical research and demining activities are scheduled to begin on the 15th of April. Before the start of the activities, the sappers of the peacekeeping engineer-sappers battalion of the ARM MoD, along with the experts of the "HALO Trust" international organization, will take a training course on the standard introduction of the activities procedures and the joint involvement. The international technical and inspection consultancy on humanitarian demining will be carried out by the experts from the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action, while the administration and supervision of the quality as well as the adoption of the final results of the activities will be carried out by the Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center" SNCO. This phase of the program will last more that a year, with a prospect of sequel in the future.  
With the Support of OSCE Yerevan Office the CHDE Training Center Was Furnished 2013-10-28 On October 28, First Deputy Minister of Defence Davit Tonoyan, Director of "Center for Humanitarian and Demining Expertise" SNCO Ruben Arakelyan and Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin attended the opening ceremony of two furnished classrooms at the "Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center" SNCO. The furnishing was funded by the OSCE Office in Yerevan. The program was carried out within the frame of the bilateral cooperaton program of 2013 between the ARM MoD and the OSCE Office in Yerevan After the tour in the area of "Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center SNCO", a meeting followed ,during which ARM First Deputy Minister of Defence expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Sorokin for the assistance, carried out within the frame of the cooperation. Parties also agreed to continue cooperation in the area of humanitarian demining within the frame of the OSCE mandate.

Summary of the results of non-technical survey on the mine impact 2013-06-01 On June 1, during a press conference at MoD, ``Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center`` SNCO and the representatives of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action summed up the results of the non-technical survey conducted from November 2012 to May 2013 in the territory of the Republic of Armenia to identify the mine impact in communities. According to HDEC director Ruben Arakelyan the 7-month-long survey included the study of mine impact, identification and mapping of contaminated areas. ``The survey was conducted in border communities, forestry and roads of national significance of 5 provinces of Armenia including Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Tavush, Gegharkunik and Ararat- overall 4255 sq km of land area with 34 723 inhabitants `` said Ruben Arakelyan. After the director`s speech, Johannes Odendaal, Project Manager of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) in Armenia noted that according to findings some 113 confirmed and 17 suspected hazardous areas were identified. `` Also during the operations data about 264 mine victims was collected and will be submitted to the Red Cross International Committee for further coordination and support for the victims,`` said Johannes Odendale.
